Day #50 – 27/08/2014

Today it’s my 50th day in Riga ! Work, lunch at home, work. And after work, we went with Majka to the cinema to watch this movie : Are you here ? (by Matthew Weiner, the creator of Mad Men), it was a really nice comedy, a good film when it’s raining a lot, during all the day !

Aujourd’hui cela fait 50 jours que je suis à Riga ! Travail, déjeuner à la maison, travail. Après le travail, nous sommes allés avec Majka au cinéma pour voir ce film : Are you here ? (de Matthew Weiner, le réalisateur de Mad Men), c’était une comédie très sympa, un bon film pour une journée de pluie !

Day #49 – 26/08/2014

I went to the office to work, after one free week, it was hard, but with a coffee it’s fine! I had lunch at home with Majka. Then go back to work. And after work, with Majka we went to the central bus station in order to buy a transport card. Then we went to the central market to buy some fruits and mushrooms. We went back home by bus, we prepared dinner together, and we made a smoothie with raspberries, strawberries and lemon juice (that’s all), it was so tasty!

Je suis allée au bureau travailler, après une semaine de vacances, c’était dur, mais avec un bon café ça va ! J’ai déjeuner à la maison avec Majka. Puis retour au travail. Et après le travail, avec Majka, nous sommes allées à la gare routière pour faire faire une carte de transport. On est ensuite allées au marché central pour acheter des fruits et des champignons. Nous sommes rentrées à la maison en bus, nous avons préparé le diner ensemble, et nous avons fait un smoothie avec des fraises, des framboises et du jus de citron (c’est tout), c’était délicieux ! 

Day #48 – 25/08/2014

This morning my mum and my grand-parents went to visit my flat and to take a coffee. Then we went to LTF shop to show to my grand-parents where I work. We had lunch at Vinja Studio, it’s a great restaurant, I love it (and so cheap when you take the daily menu!) ! As it was raining a lot, we went to Galleria Centrs to do some shopping, but finally we didn’t buy anything. Then go back to the hotel, and after Andis picked us up and we went to Liene and Andis house to have dinner. It was really nice. Then go back to home.

Ce matin, ma maman et mes grands-parents sont venus visiter mon appartement et prendre un café. Puis nous sommes allés au magasin LTF pour montrer à mes grands-parents où je travaille. Nous avons déjeuner à Vinja Studio, c’est un super restaurant, je l’adore (et tellement peu cher quand on prend le menu du jour !) ! Comme il pleuvait beaucoup, nous sommes allés à Galleria Centrs pour faire du shopping, mais nous n’avons finalement rien acheté. Puis nous sommes rentrés à l’hôtel, et après Andis est venu nous chercher en voiture et nous sommes allés chez Liene et Andis pour dîner. C’était très sympa. Retour à la maison. 

Day #47 – 24/08/2014

Today we have visited the museum of the occupation of Latvia, it was really interesting. Latvia was occupied by Germany and by Russia… Then after a coffee, we have visited the Bourse Art museum, there was Latvian masterpieces (from the Art museum which is currently in renovation), and other foreign paintings, but not a lot and not the most beautiful. After, we took the small train to have a quick sightseeing tour in the old Riga, we have already seen all, but it was interesting to learn more about buildings and history of Riga. Then after dinner, we went another time to the opera to see an opera : Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini). I don’t really like opera, but it was beautiful, not boring at all, and with a really nice staging. Aujourd’hui, nous avons visité le musée de l’occupation de la Lettonie, c’était très intéressant. La Lettonie a été occupée par l’Allemagne et par la Russie… Puis, après un café, nous avons visité le musée d’art de la Bourse, il y’avait quelques œuvres maintresses lettones (du musée des Beaux-Arts, actuellement en travaux), et d’autres peintures étrangères, mais pas beaucoup, et pas les plus belles. Après, nous avons fait un tour du vieux Riga en petit train, nous avions déjà tout vu, mais c’était intéressant pour en apprendre davantage sur les bâtiments et l’histoire de Riga. Ensuite, après avoir dîné, nous sommes allés à nouveau à l’opéra pour voir un opéra : Le barbier de Séville (Rossini). Je n’aime pas vraiment l’opéra, mais c’était très beau, pas ennuyeux du tout, et la mise est scène était très belle. Day #46 – 23/08/2014

We went to the open-air museum (it’s really Nordic to have open-air museum, and I like it!) it was really nice to walk in the wood and to visit different old Latvian houses. In the evening we went to the opera to see a ballet : the sleeping beauty. It was very beautiful but it’s not the most beautiful ballet from Petipa, a little bit too long at the end…

Nous sommes allés au musée en plein-air (c’est très nordique d’avoir un musée en plein air, et j’adore ça !), c’était très sympa de se promener dans les bois et de visiter les différentes vieilles maisons lettones. Le soir, nous sommes allés à l’opéra pour voir un ballet : la Belle au bois dormant. C’était très beau, mais ce n’est pas le plus beau ballet de Petipa, c’était un peu long à la fin…

Day #45 – 22/08/2014

Sorry for my dear readers, I’m late, but I was so busy this week-end… ! On the morning we went to the Art Nouveau quarter where there are many builidings Art Nouveau style (Elizabetes iela and Alberta iela), and we have visited the Art Nouveau museum, it was a flat Art Nouveau style. Then we had lunch at Lido restaurant. We went to Radisson Blue Hotel, at the 26^th floor to see a beautiful view of Riga. We also visited the synagogue from Riga. And then after dinner, I met Majka, my lovely flatmate, we went to Ala bar, I love this bar ! I took a honey beer and she took a cranberry beer, so tasty ! Then we were hungry, so we ate sushi at Tokyo City, and after, by chance, in the street we met Fabian, our German flatmate, with all his Erasmus friends, so we went with them to the Rock Café to dance, it was fun. Then went back home in taxi (2,5€/person, so cheap!).

Je suis désolée pour mes chers lecteurs, je suis en retard, mais j’ai été très occupée ce week-end…! Le matin, nous avons visité le quartier Art Nouveau où il y’a de nombreux immeubles style Art Nouveau (Elizabetes iela and Alberta iela), et nous avons visité le musée Art Nouveau, qui est en fait un appartement dans le style Art Nouveau. Puis nous avons déjeuné au Lido. Nous sommes allés au Radisson Blue Hotel pour admirer la vue sur Riga du 26^e étage. Nous avons aussi visité la synagogue de Riga. Et ensuite après dîné, j’ai retrouvé mon adorable colloc, Majka, nous sommes allées au bar Ala, j’adore ce bar ! J’ai pris une bière au miel, et elle a pris une bière aux cranberries, délicieux ! Comme nous avions faim, nous avons ensuite été manger des sushis à Tokyo City, et après, par hasard, on a rencontré dans la rue, Fabian, notre colloc allemand, avec tous ses amis Erasmus, donc on est allé avec eux au Rock Café pour danser, c’était super. Puis nous sommes rentrés en taxi (2,5€/personne, pas cher !).

Day #44 – 21/08/2014

We went to the central market, it’s one of the biggest and oldest of Europe. Then we went to the older Riga ghetto where many Jews died (starving) during the WWII. We took a coffee at “Dali coffee and Art”. And after, we visited the outside Jews museum, it was very moving and poignant… All the names of Jews dead were written on a wall as you can see on one of my picture... Then, we had seen the Jesus church, the bigger wood temple of Latvia. We had lunch after at Stockmann, did a little bit shopping, then went back to the hotel to have a rest. And then we have seen the “Cat house” (Kaku maja) and the big Gilde (Liela Gilde), and dinner in an Italian restaurant.

Nous sommes allés au marché central, un des plus grands et des plus vieux d’Europe. Puis nous sommes allés dans l’ancien ghetto de Riga où beaucoup de juifs sont morts (de faim notamment) pendant la seconde guerre mondiale. Nous avons pris un café au « Dali coffee and Art ». Et après nous avons visité le musée juif (musée en plein air en partie), c’était très émouvant et poignant… Tous les noms des juifs morts étaient écrits sur un mur comme vous pouvez le voir sur l’une de mes photos… Puis, nous avons vu l’église Jesus, le plus grand temple en bois de Lettonie. Nous avons déjeuner au Stockmann, fait un peu de shopping puis sommes rentrés à l’hôtel pour se reposer. Et ensuite plus tard nous avons vu la « maison du chat » (Kaku maja) and la grande Guilde (Liela Gilde), et dîné dans un restaurant italien. 

Day #43 – 20/08/2014

Today it was great day, I was so happy to see my mum and my grand-parents. They will stay in Riga for one week. I met them at their hotel, and then we went in the old town. We have visited Doma Cathedral (the biggest one in Baltic states). After we had lunch. And we went to Pilsetas kanals, and we took a boat for a sightseeing tour (50 minutes) on this canal but also on the river, the Daugava. It was very nice. Then we had seen the orthodox cathedral (Kristus Piedzimsanas Pareizticigo katedrale), went to Vermanes park and went back to the hotel to have some rest. Dinner in a sushi restaurant in the old Riga.

Aujourd’hui c’était une super journée, j’étais tellement contente de voir ma maman et mes grands-parents. Ils restent à Riga une semaine. Je les ai retrouvés à leur hôtel, puis nous sommes allés dans la vieille ville. Nous avons visité la cathédrale Doma (la plus grande des pays baltes). Après nous avons déjeuné. Et nous sommes allés au canal Pilsetas, et nous avons pris un bateau pour faire un tour (50 minutes) sur ce canal et sur le fleuve, la Daugava. C’était très sympa. Ensuite, nous avons vu la cathédrale orthodoxe (Kristus Piedzimsanas Pareizticigo katedrale), sommes allés au parc Vermanes puis sommes rentrés à l’hôtel pour nous reposer. Dîner dans un restaurant japonais dans le vieux Riga. 

 

Day #42 – 19/08/2014

Day #41 – 18/08/2014

Nothing special. I have a free week because my manager is on holiday, that’s good because on Tuesday arrive my mum and my grand-parents. So today, I just stayed at home, did housework, I just went outside to buy some food.

Rien de spécial. J’ai ma semaine libre car ma manager est en vacances, ça tombe bien car ma maman et mes grands-parents arrivent mardi. Donc aujourd’hui, je suis juste restée à la maison, j’ai fait un peu de ménage et je suis sortie faire quelques courses. 

Day #40 – 17/08/2014

Today I woke up late. Then I took a big breakfast. And after I met Eva and her family, we went to a place where there were many activities organized by the technical university of Riga, and there was especially a concert from students who study at the DJ school of Riga (so it was electro music), and also dance show. I love dance, so I was very happy to see dance show, it was more hip-hop and break dance. Then I went back to home.

Aujourd’hui je me suis réveillée tard. Et j’ai pris un bon petit déjeuner. Et après j’ai retrouvé Eva et sa famille, nous sommes allés à un endroit où il y’avait des activités organisées par l’université technique/professionnelle de Riga, et il y’avait notamment un concert d’étudiants qui sont à l’école de DJ de Riga (donc c’était de la musique électro), et un spectacle de danse aussi. J’adore la dance, donc j’étais super contente de voir ce show, c’était plus hip-hop et break dance comme style. Ensuite je suis rentrée à l’appart.

Day #39 – 16/08/2014

Today, I just stayed at home. And in the evening, I went with Alina and Anastacia to Riga city festival. There were many events like concerts and so on. There were so many people in Riga, I felt like in Paris during the Music Festival ! We had a quick dinner and then we saw the fireworks, it was only during 10 minutes, but it was quite original and beautiful, as always for fireworks. Then back to home by tram (so crowded as the metro in Paris during peak hours!). It was cold, only 13 degrees tonight.

Aujourd’hui je suis restée à la maison. Et le soir, je suis allée avec Alina et Anastacia à la fête de Riga. Il y’avait plein d’événements comme des concerts, etc. Il y’avait tellement de monde dans Riga, j’avais l’impression d’être à Paris pendant la fête de la musique ! Nous avons dîné rapidement et ensuite nous sommes allées voir le feu d’artifice, cela a duré seulement 10 minutes, mais c’était assez original, et très beau, comme toujours pour les feux d’artifice. Puis retour à la maison en tram (il était bondé, comme dans le métro à Paris pendant les heures de pointe !). Cette nuit il fait froid, seulement 13 degrés. 

Day #38 – 15/08/2014

Work. Lunch at home. Work. Then with Majka, we went to her future school : the Stockholm School of Economics, it’s a beautiful building. Then we walked in Kronvalda park, and near the Vansu bridge and the river Daugava. In the old Riga, we finally found a bar to celebrate our birthdays (because she’s born on the 30^th July!): Balzambars. And I drank the cocktail of Riga : Clavis Riga, it’s with Riga Balsam (which is a traditional Latvian herbal liqueur made with many different natural ingredients mixed in pure vodka), rhubarb liqueur, pomegranate syrup, white chocolate syrup and apple juice, very tasty !

Travail, déjeuner à la maison. Travail. Puis avec Majka, nous sommes allées voir sa future école : la Stockholm School of Economics, c’est un très beau bâtiment. Puis nous nous sommes promenés dans le parc Kronvalda, près du pont Vansu et du fleuve Daugava. Dans le vieux Riga, nous avons finalement trouvé un bar pour célébrer nos anniversaires (parce qu’elle est né le 30 juillet !) : Balzambars. Et j’ai bu là un cocktail de Riga : le Clavis Riga, c’est avec la liqueur Riga Balsam (le « baume noir », qui est une liqueur traditionnelle lettone produite à partir d’ingrédients naturels mélangés à de a vodka pure), de la liqueur de rhubarbe, du sirop de grenade, du sirop au chocolat blanc et du jus de pomme, c’est délicieux !
